Report: Showtime Exec Says No Strikeforce Fighters Prevented From UFC

Espinoza

By FCF Staff

Despite a recent report, Showtime Sports President Stephen Espinoza is denying that the network has an agreement in place with ZUFFA, which prevents certain fighters from moving to the UFC.

The network’s executive reportedly made the comments today while appearing on The MMA Hour.

Over the weekend, veteran MMA writer Dave Meltzer reported that certain fighters are prevented from moving from Strikeforce to the UFC, even if their contract with the former runs out. According to his sources, as long as Showtime broadcasts Strikeforce cards, certain fighters could not fight for the UFC.

Some of the fighters on the reported list included Ronda Rousey, Luke Rockhold and Gilbert Melendez.

Espinoza apparently acknowledged that fighters currently under contract to Strikeforce, like Melendez, cannot fight for the UFC.  Espinoza furthered, however, there is no list of fighters who are restricted from moving to the UFC in contrast to the aforementioned report.
