Stephen Thompson’s rise up the welterweight rankings as been stalled, as the vaunted striker has reportedly undergone knee surgery once again.

Thompson is coming off a highlight reel, spinning hook kick stoppage of Jake Ellenberger in July, which moved “Wonderboy” into #8 of the UFC’s 170 ranks. According to a report from “UFC Tonight’s” Ariel Helwani, however, Thompson recently had surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his left knee. It’s the same knee Thompson injured in 2012.

According to the report, Thompson bruised his heel during his bout with Ellenberger, and overcompensated in the following weeks with his left leg.

The 32 year-old fighter has won five straight bouts.
