Report: Thiago Silva and Thiago Alves Off UFC 149 Card

According to reports, the upcoming July 21st UFC 149 card in Calgary, Alberta, has lost two notable competitors, as both Thiago Silva and Thiago Alves have apparently been forced to withdraw from the event due to injuries.

Silva has dropped out of his scheduled bout with Mauricio “Shogun” Rua due to a back injury. The nature of the injury was revealed in a follow up report from MMA Fighting.

In the original report by MMA Junkie, UFC President Dana White said that Rua has been offered a fight with Glover Teixeira instead, but taccording to the executive Rua’s camp has turned down the bout.

According to a report from MMA Weekly, Alves has been forced to drop out due to an undisclosed injury, and the search is on for a replacement to fight Siyar Bahadurzada.

The UFC 149 card, which will be hosted by Calgary’s Saddledome arena, will feature a featherweight fight between champion Jose Aldo and Erik Koch in the main event.
