Report: Tito Ortiz Says Rubber Match With Forrest Griffin Booked For UFC 148
By FCF Staff
Tito Ortiz’s professional career could come to a close, July 7th, at UFC 148. The former light-heavyweight champion is reporting via his official Twitter account that he will face Forrest Griffin for a third time at the event, which will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
The UFC has not made any official announcement regarding the bout.
Ortiz, who is coming off back-to-back losses to Rashad Evans and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, has been asking for a third fight with Griffin for sometime now. In April, 2006, Ortiz worked his way to a split decision over Griffin, only to lose by the same margin to the former champ in November, 2009.
Ortiz has also stated publicly that the upcoming bout–the last on his current UFC contract–will be the 37 year-old fighter’s last. The charismatic fighter has gone just 1-4 in his last five bouts.
Griffin (18-7) hasn’t fought since he was knocked out by Mauricio “Shogun” Rua last August, after the former TUF star scored wins over the aforementioned Ortiz and Rich Franklin. The 32 year-old-fighter is 2-3 in his last five fights.
UFC 148 will also feature a bantamweight bout between champion Dominick Cruz and challenger Urijah Faber, as well as, Rich Franklin vs. Cung Le and Tim Boetsch vs. Michael Bisping.
