Report: UFC 158 Winner Georges St. Pierre Fought Nick Diaz Injured

GSP

By FCF Staff

Although UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre made no mention of it following his unanimous decision win over Nick Diaz at UFC 158, the soft spoken fighter reportedly fought his rival injured.

According to a report from TVA Sports, and a follow up confirmation from MMA Fighting, St. Pierre competed with an injured Achilles tendon.

The fighter’s trainer Firas Zahabi told TVA Sports that they were concerned the tendon might tear during the bout, and that he’s certain the injury affected St. Pierre’s performance.

Zahabi also relayed that GSP had a fever during the day of the event.

St. Pierre largely turned to his wrestling and controlling top game to win the five round bout, but the normally explosive fighter did appear to be tentative and sluggish as the fight wore on.

Now the pound-for-pound contender is expected to fight Johny Hendricks next, but it remains to be seen when the bout will materialize, and if St. Pierre’s return could be delayed by the injury.
