Report: UFC Champ Jose Aldo Supports Fighter Union

Jose Aldo

By FCF Staff

Jose Aldo has argued in the past that fighters don’t get paid enough, and now the UFC’s featherweight champ has said he believes a union could benefit his counterparts.

Aldo, who is scheduled to fight interim featherweight champ Conor McGregor on December 12th, recently spoke with the Brazilian outlet, Combate. According to a follow up report from MMA Fighting.com, the renowned fighter had this to say about a fighter union:

“Nobody ever talked to me about a union, but that would be great,” Aldo said. “It’s a protection for the fighter, that could help a lot. Nobody ever considered this. Fighters are not united because of the past of rivalries between teams and martial arts. It’s different from the old days now, of course, but that still happens. If I don’t fight for this money, someone else will accept tomorrow. Fighters are not united, and that’s why we don’t have many privileges.”

The 29 year-old added that he doesn’t believe he has the time right now to help build a union, but will consider it when he’s retired.

Aldo-McGregor will headline UFC 194, which will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas.
