Following his memorable stoppage win over Brandon Vera at UFC 164 in August, Ben Rothwell has reportedly been suspended by the promotion, after allegedly testing for elevated testosterone. The disciplinary action did not stem from the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, which oversaw the August 31st card in Milwaukee.

Although the UFC has not made any official announcement regarding the suspension, Rothwell informed MMA Junkie.com of the promotion’s decision. According to the report, Wisconsin officials sent Rothwell an “administrative warning” regarding the elevated levels of testosterone.

In a statement Rothwell sent to the outlet, he says he was granted a testosterone-replacement-therapy exemption for the bout. The 31 year-old added that doctors believe his need for TRT might stem from the serious head trauma he incurred in a 1999 car crash.

The fighter has no plans to “fight” the UFC’s decision, as Rothwell believes it’s his “responsibility” to stay under the legal limits for testosterone.

Heading into UFC 164, Rothwell was coming off a second round, guillotine choke loss to Gabriel Gonzaga in January.
