Approximately two months out from the first UFC on FOX Sports 1 card in Boston, it appears as though a Massachusetts law regarding the need for foreign fighters to secure a social security number, could be threatening the event.

According to a report from the Boston Herald, the UFC has asked state officials to make an exception regarding the law, so that the August 17th, UFC on FS1 1 card can proceed accordingly. The report quotes Terrell Harris, spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety, stating:

“It’s been brought to the attention of the UFC more than a few times since we legalized the fighting here. But they’ve chosen basically to ignore the law and hope that they could skirt it somehow.”

The Social Security Administration reportedly allows fighters to get a temporary number after a 10 day grace period. UFC on FS1 1 is set to feature several foreign fighters, some of whom include “Shogun” Rua, Yuri Alcantara, and Diego Brandao.

The UFC held an UFC 118 in Boston in 2011, which featured several foreign fighters, without incident. The promotion has not made a statement yet regarding the report.
