Following Edson Barboza’s impressive win over Anthony Pettis last month, it looks as though the lightweight will face another top contender in Gilbert Melendez.

Barboza outstruck Pettis at UFC 197 on April 23rd, and earned a unanimous decision win over the former champ. According to a report from Globo, and a follow up report from MMA Fighting.com, the UFC is hoping to book Barboza – Melendez for UFC on FOX 20.

The  card will take place on July 23rd in Chicago.

Barboza (17-4) has gone 3-2 in his last five fights and is ranked #6. Melendez (22-5), meanwhile, is coming off consecutive defeats versus Eddie Alvarez and Pettis. The former Strikeforce champ failed his post fight drug test after facing Alvarez, and was suspended for a year.
