After Cung Le allegedly tested positive for human growth hormone in a recent drug test, and was suspended for one year as a result, the UFC has announced that the middleweight will be allowed to appeal.

Since the UFC announced Le’s suspension, following his stoppage loss to Michael Bisping on August 23rd, the fighter has denied taking any performance enhancing drug. Le and his camp have pointed to the fact that the test was not done by a WADA certified facility, and have questioned the Hong Kong lab’s testing procedures.

In a follow up report with ESPN.com, the UFC’s chief operating officer Lawrence Epstein relayed:

“The (American Arbitration Association) would hear whatever Cung Le’s arguments are. He has a certain time to file his intention to appeal. An arbitration panel would be set up, he’ll make his case, arbitration will make its decision and that will be the end of it.”

Le’s manager, Gary Ibarra, has confirmed that the feared striker will launch an appeal. As a result, it will mark the first time a fighter has appealed a suspension that has been handed down by the UFC. The promotion handles its own disciplinary actions and drug testing for events that are held in jurisdictions with no athletic commissions.
