After going 7-1 since he departed the UFC in 2009, renowned jiu-jitsu competitor and M-1 Global champion Vinny Magalhaes has reportedly signed with the UFC and will make his Octagon return on September 1st.

Although the UFC hasn’t made any official announcement regarding the light-heavyweight, the Brazilian publication Tatame is reporting that Magalhaes has reached an agreement with the promotion. No details regarding an opponent were included.

Magalhaes has made no secret of the fact that he wanted to compete for the UFC again; in March, the 28 year-old-figher told Full Contact Fighter:

“My whole goal has been to get some wins, fix my record, and then go back to the UFC,” said Magalhaes. “I was never trying to have a career somewhere else, my goal was always to get back to the UFC. I still haven’t changed my mind.”

After his current contract with M-1 expired, a disgruntled Magalhaes relayed publicly that he would wait for the matching period to end with the European based promotion, before entering into negotiations with other organizations.

The former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor hasn’t competed since last October, when he stopped Mikhail Zayats in the third round.

Magalhaes could not be reached by Full Contact Fighter to confirm Tatame’s report.
