Report: Vitor Belfort to Apply For TUE Prior to Facing Weidman
By FCF Staff
Although Vitor Belfort has said he will fight UFC middleweight champ Chris Weidman if he can’t undergo testosterone replacement therapy, the punishing striker still intends to undergo the controversial treatments.
Belfort has reportedly informed “UFC Tonight” that he will apply for a therapeutic use exemption for TRT, based off his doctor’s advice, prior to facing Weidman.
Belfort is one of several UFC fighters who has been cleared to undergo TRT in recent years, but he has not been authorized to do so yet in Nevada. Former NSAC executive director Keith Kizer has stated previously he doesn’t believe Belfort would receive a TUE in the state, as a result of testing positive for steroids there in 2006.
The 36 year-old veteran has been tapped for a title shot after an impressive 2013 campaign, which saw Belfort stop Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold and Dan Henderson.
The UFC has not announced when and where Weidman-Belfort will take place, however, the promotion has said Las Vegas is a preferred destination.
