Report: Wanderlei Silva Accuses UFC of Running “Slavery System”

Silva

By FCF Staff

Wanderlei Silva has accused the UFC of mistreating fighters in the past, and now, the legendary fighter has reportedly argued the promotion is running a “slavery system”.

The 38 year-old fighter, who was banned by the Nevada Commission last year after failing to take a random drug test, had announced his retirement, but more recently, Silva’s indicated he’d like to fight again.

The following comment appeared on Silva’s Facebook page recently (translation via MMA Fighting.com):

“You know that I’ve been chased, discriminated, treated like a slave by this promotion. They don’t want to release me from the contract, so I can’t work anymore, which is my right of not wanting to work for them anymore, and I can’t work anywhere else. I come here asking the UFC to release me from this slavery system. You work for them or don’t work anywhere else. Some good soul, please translate this and send to Dana. I know I will find the best lawyers to help me with that.”

Following UFC FN 62 last night, UFC President Dana White pointed to Silva’s issues with the NSAC, and argued the fighter has done this to “himself.”
