Although Yoel Romero won’t return to the United States armed with the UFC’s interim middleweight title, it appears as though the fighter has locked up a rematch with champ, Robert Whittaker.

Romero knocked out Luke Rockhold in the headliner of UFC 221, but, since the decorated wrestler didn’t make weight for the contest, he was ineligible to win the interim belt.

Since Romero’s memorable win however, ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported the following via Twitter:

Asked Dana White if plan is to have Yoel Romero fight Robert Whittaker next, despite the fact he didn’t win an interim title tonight.
Answer: “Yes.”

Whittaker fought Romero last July, and won the fight via unanimous decision.
