MEDICAL CONDITION FORCES ALFONSO ALCAREZ OUT OFWFA COMPETITION

THE WFA IS STILL SHAPING UP TO BE MMA’S HOTTEST EVENT DESPITE LAST MINUTE REPLACEMENTS

LAS VEGAS (October 22, 2001) – Alfonso Alcarez, slated to compete against Stephen Paling, has pulled out of the WFA’s November 3rd card due to a bout with appendicitis this afternoon. Alcarez is a Las Vegas native with credentials in wrestling, professional boxing and kickboxing. He is known in the MMA scene as the man who fought Jens Pulver, the UFC’s Lightweight Champion, to a draw in his first UFC bout.

In his place, John Lewis is extremely happy to announce his replacement. A very game Joao Roque has stepped up to the plate to fill the vacant slot. The top ten ranked Roque is trained by world renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu specialist Andre Pederneiras.

This evening, Stephen Paling agreed to take the fight with Joao Roque with just two weeks notice. Paling’s spirit of competition exemplifies a true warrior – anyone, anytime.
