RFA 28: Andrew Sanchez vs. John Poppie New Headliner, Matt Manzanares in For Geane Herrera

By FCF Staff

Now that Geane “La Pulga” Herrera has been tapped for an August 8th bout with Ray Borg at UFC Fight Night 74, Resurrection Fighting Alliance has been forced to do some juggling to its August 7th event.

Due to the departure of Herrera, the RFA has announced that former flyweight champ Matt Manzanares will step in and fight Ken Porter at the upcoming event. Manzanares (7-5) is looking to end a three fight losing skid, while Porter (8-2) has won four straight.

The new headliner for RFA 28 will be a scrap between Andrew Sanchez and John Poppie for the vacant middleweight belt. Sanchez (6-2) is coming off a stoppage win over Clinton Williams, and Poppie (6-1) decisioned Rakim Cleveland in his last outing.

“I am excited to see Geane Herrera represent what the RFA is all about by extending his undefeated record in the UFC,” RFA President Ed Soares was quoted saying in the official announcement. “The co-main event of RFA 28 will now feature the return of former RFA flyweight champion Matt Manzanares against fellow boxer-turned-MMA fighter Ken Porter.”

The main card for RFA 28 will be broadcast on AXS TV.
