RFA 33: Adam Townsend to Battle E.J. Chavez

By Press Release

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Resurrection Fighting Alliance (RFA) president Ed Soares announced today that the promotion will return to Orange County with RFA 33 – Townsend vs. Chavez in December for the promotion’s year-end event. The RFA 33 headliner will feature a showdown between two of the sport’s most exciting lightweights as Adam “Prime Time” Townsend returns to battle Orange County’s own E.J. “The Mad Titan” Chavez. RFA 33 – Townsend vs. Chavez will take place Friday, December 11th at The Hangar at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa, California. The entire main card will be televised live and nationwide on AXS TV at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT.

“I’m happy to be bringing the RFA back to Orange County for our year-end event”, stated Soares. “RFA 33 – Townsend vs. Chavez will end 2015 in a big way. Adam Townsend is looking for his third straight win over a UFC vet, while E.J. Chavez is out to show why he’s one of Orange County’s most talented and exciting fighters.”

Townsend (14-3) will enter the main event of RFA 33 looking to put the finishing touches on a spectacular 2015. “Prime Time” made his presence known immediately upon signing with the RFA this past spring. He served as a pivotal member of Team RFA that defeated Team Legacy in the historic cross-promotion that took place this past May. Townsend defeated former UFC welterweight Yuri Villefort with a dominant unanimous decision in the promotion vs. promotion event. That win followed with another unanimous decision victory over former UFC lightweight Ryan Roberts in the co-main event of RFA 30 in September. Now that “Prime Time” has earned main event status at RFA 33, he is looking forward to letting the world know what time it is.

“I’m excited to close out a great year as the main event of RFA 33,” stated Townsend. “I get to fight another tough UFC vet in his home town and show the world why I’m the best fighter outside the UFC.”

Chavez (9-2) is a three-time UFC vet that will be entering the main event of RFA 33 fresh off of a scintillating first round KO of five-time UFC vet Justin Buchholz in October. Chavez is looking to duplicate that performance in front of his home crowd to cement his status as one of the most exciting fighters to come out of a historically MMA talent-rich Orange County.”I’m very happy for the opportunity to headline the RFA’s year-end show,” Chavez exclaimed. “The RFA is an awesome organization and I have been wanting to get picked up by them for awhile. Now I get to headline a show for them in my hometown. I perform better with the support of my friends and family and I promise an even better showing at RFA 33 than what I did in my last fight.”

RFA 33 will also feature the return of four of the RFA’s most exciting prospects. In the co-main event, Joey “Slash” Merritt (6-1) returns to the RFA after taking a fight in the UFC this past summer on 7 days’ notice. He will face Orange County based BJJ black belt Felipe Fogolin (7-2) in a welterweight contest, which was originally slated to take place this past February at RFA 23. At bantamweight, Hawaiian KO sensation Boston “Boom Boom” Salmon (4-0) will put his undefeated record on the line against an opponent that will be announced soon. Also on the main card, Anderson Silva protégé Khalil Rountree (3-0) returns to welcome the surging Justin Polendey (7-2) at middleweight, while former collegiate wrestler Jordan Johnson (3-0) will meet three-time Bellator vet Luc Bondole (5-1-2) in an explosive light-heavyweight tilt.

The full RFA 33 fight card and further information regarding this event will be announced soon. RFA 33 will be the promotion’s third event to take place in Orange County and its sixth event to take place in the state of California. The entire main card of RFA 33 will be televised live and nationwide on AXS TV at 10 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. PT on Friday, December 11th.
