Recently Shane Carwin announced his intention to return to fighting, and now RIZIN FF has confirmed that the heavyweight will compete in the second round of the promotion’s open-weight, grand prix.

Carwin’s opponent for the December 29th event has yet to be determined. Other fighters who are scheduled to compete in the second round include Baruto Kaito, Valentin Moldavsky, Amir Aliakbari, Jiri Prochazka, and Szymon Bzor. Mirko “Cro Cop” will fight Wanderlei Silva in a second round bout, which is the only confirmed match-up thus far.

The announcement does not come as a surprise, as recently Carwin tweeted the comment below.

The 41 year-old Carwin will be competing in a MMA fight for the first time since 2011, when he was decisioned by Junior dos Santos at UFC 131.

The December 29th card will be hosted by Saitama, Japan.
