Many hardcore fans weren’t happy to hear that Fedor Emelianenko is fighting a man with just two MMA bouts on his record tomorrow, but the Russian star says Jaideep Singh is a “serious contender”.

Emelianenko has been booked to fight Singh at Rizin Fighting Federation’s New Year’s Eve event. Although Singh has gone 2-0 in pro MMA to date, the 6’5 tall fighter has competed extensively in kickboxing, and is 40-10-1 in that sport.

Recently Emelianenko was asked about Singh while speaking to Union MMA, and former PRIDE champ had this to say:

“I think he is quite a serious contender. Under the rules of K-1, he defeated Sergei Kharitonov. He is tall and heavy.”

Emelianenko (34-4) also relayed in the interview that he is fully recovered from several injuries which plagued him prior to his initial retirement in 2012. Rizin’s NYE event will be hosted by the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
