Ronda Rousey Captures Strikeforce 135 Pound Women’s Title With First Round Armbar Submission Of Miesha Tate

The fight lived up to all its hype and gave a strong boost to the credibility of women’s Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

After an electrifying, back-and-forth tussle, 24-year-old Olympic Judo Bronze Medalist and MMA rising phenom “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey (5-0) seized the Strikeforce women’s bantamweight (135 pounds) championship in what was just her fifth professional MMA start, by submitting Miesha “Takedown” Tate with the armbar that has become Rousey’s signature finishing move, at the 4:27 mark of the first round of their main event matchup at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, March 3.
