Ronny Markes Steps in for Injured Stephan Bonnar

By FCF Staff

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has announced that former TUF competitor Stephan Bonnar will not fight Karlos Vemola as scheduled, August 14th, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, due to injury. Light-heavyweight Ronny Marki Sales da Silva, who goes by Ronny Markes, will be Bonnar’s replacement at the UFC on Versus event.

No information regarding the nature of Bonnar’s injury was offered in the announcement.

Markes (11-1) will make his UFC debut having worked his way to a unanimous decision over former WEC middleweight champ Paulo Filho in April, while fighting under the International Fighter Championship banner. The 23 year-old-fighter is currently on a four fight winning streak.

Vemola (8-1) is coming off a first round stoppage of Seth Petruzelli at UFC 122 in November, after losing by UD to Jon Madsen at UFC 116 last July. All eight of the 25 year-old-fighter’s victories have come in the first round.

The upcoming August 14th, UFC on Versus card will be headlined by a welterweight bout between Dan Hardy and Chris Lytle.
