Report: Roy Nelson Suspended And Fined Following Incident With “Big” John McCarthy
By FCF Staff
As many expected would be the case, Roy Nelson has been suspended and fined, following a highly publicized incident with referee “Big” John McCarthy in September.
Nelson lightly kicked McCarthy in the back, just moments after his September 24th bout with “Bigfoot” Silva was stopped by the referee. Afterwards, Nelson reported that he believed McCarthy stopped the fight too late, and that he was angered by the fact he had to hit Silva again. The outspoken fighter apologized to McCarthy afterwards, but he also said he wouldn’t “take it back”.
According to a new report from MMA Fighting, the Brazilian Superior Justice Court of MMA (STJDMMA) has suspended Nelson for nine months and fined him $24,000 for his actions. The organization has reportedly announced, however, that if Nelson apologizes to McCarthy via a press conference or in the Octagon, then his suspension will be reduced to six months and the fine will be $13,700.
