Saad Awad vs. David Rickels, Mikhail Zayats vs. Emanuel Newton Tourney Finals Set For March 28th Bellator
Bellator will conclude the promotion’s latest lightweight and light-heavyweight tournaments March 28th in Tampa, Florida, as Saad Awad will battle David Rickels and Mikhail Zayats will take on Emanuel Newton.
The card will be hosted by the University of South Florida’s Sun Dome and will be broadcast on SPIKE.
Awad (14-4) is coming off back-to-back stoppage wins over Guillaume DeLorenzi and Will Brooks to advance to the lightweight tourney finale, while Rickels (13-1) earned decision wins over Lloyd Woodard and Jason Fischer.
“I’ve got all the respect in the world for Saad,” Rickels was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion. “The guy has two huge knockouts in this tournament, but not too many men have been able to stand with the Caveman, and that’s not going to change March 28th.”
Newton (20-7-1) stopped Atanas Djambazov and “King Mo” Lawal to earn a spot in the light-heavyweight finale, while Zayats (21-6) scored a stoppage win over Renato Sobral and then tapped out Jacob Noe.
“I shocked the world once, and I’ll do it again March 28th,” Newton said. “After this tournament, everyone is going to know who Emanuel Newton is, and I’m going to be coming for that belt.”
