Scoring Error Changes Johnson-McCall Ruling To Majority Draw, Future Rematch

Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson

By FCF Staff

Much of the MMA world was in shock after the UFC on FX 2 flyweight (125 pounds) fight between Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall was declared a split-decision win for Johnson.  It turns out that the Australian governing body presiding over the fights in Sydney made a critical error in tabulating the score of the fight, which should have been ruled a majority draw.

Following the mistake, a frustrated UFC President Dana White, who said he will award both fighters win bonuses for their efforts in The Octagon, confirmed that the Johnson and McCall will face off again, tentatively in April.

The Combat Sports Authority of New South Wales admitted its error after the fight.  Had it caught the mistake earlier, the fight would have been sent into a “sudden-victory” fourth round to determine a winner.

Johnson was originally declared the winner via 28-29, 29-28 and 29-28 scores.  He was later declared the majority-decision winner by way of 29-28, 29-29 and 29-28 scores.

According to a commission official, however one of the judges presiding over the fight had actually scored the final round 10-8,  resulting in  final scores of 28-28, 29-29, 29-28.  Johnson received the 29-28 score).

The winner of the rematch will face Joseph Benavidez, who scored a KO on Yasuhiro Urushitani in the other flyweight bout of the night.  The two 125 pound fights comprised the start of a four-man, single-elimination tournament that will name the winner the first UFC flyweight champion in history.

Damn….how the hell do you get a job being an MMA judge. Seriously!!! I can score a fight better than at least 40% of these idiots. And how does the scoring board make that big of a mistake?? WTF Australia? Too busy not being able to drive Dana White anywhere and stopping “too violent” video game from entering your country to be able to count? Sheesh. I hate instant rematches also.
