Shark Fights 17: Promotion Says Ricco Rodriguez Still Fighting, Facing Doug Williams

By FCF Staff

Just when it was looking like Ricco Rodriguez might not compete at Shark Fights 17 tonight in Frisco, Texas, according to the promotion,  some last minute shuffling has kept the former UFC heavyweight champion on the card.

Rodriguez was originally scheduled to fight Karl Knothe, however, Knothe did not come in under the agreed 230lb catch-weight limit that was assigned to the fight.  As a result, according to a Shark Fights news release, Rodriguez will now face Doug Williams who had been set to fight Daniel Almeida.

Although Ken Pavia, one of Rodriguez’s representatives, informed FCF that the bout has not been signed, a Shark Fights spokesperson insisted that according to their information, Rodriguez has agreed to fight Williams.

Prior to the press release announcing the new bout, HDNet Fights CEO Andrew Simon informed FCF that Rodriguez would still be competing on tonight’s event, despite the withdrawal of Knothe.

Tonight’s Shark Fights 17 card will be hosted by the Dr. Pepper Arena in Frisco, Texas, and will be broadcast live on HDNet.

The card will be headlined by a middleweight bout between Matt Horwich and Jake Rosholt.
