Silva, Le, Henderson and Rua Among UFC 139 Award Winners
Last night’s UFC 139 card in San Jose produced not one, but two “Fight of the Night” awards. The promotion announced afterwards that Dan Henderson and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, as well as Wanderlei Silva and Cung Le, were given bonuses for their respective fights.
Henderson and Rua engaged in a memorable, five round war, which saw Henderson survive a late surge from his opponent to earn the judge’s unanimous decision nod.
As expected, the Silva and Le tilt included numerous highlight reel exchanges, before Silva finished the decorated striker off in round two with knees and punches.
All four men received an additional $70,000 for their “Fight of the Night” awards.
“Knockout of the Night” and an extra 70 grand went to Michael McDonald, who quickly dropped Alex Soto with a booming right hand and finished the fight with a series of follow up punches.
And “Submission of the Night” was given to Urijah Faber, who after stunning fellow former WEC champ Brian Bowles, tapped out the bantamweight with a second round, guillotine choke.
