Tatsuya Kawajiri to Make FW Debut vs. Joachim Hansen at DREAM 17

By FCF Staff

Tatsuya Kawajiri will begin his run as a featherweight against fellow veteran Joachim Hansen at DREAM 17, the promotion has announced today. The bout will take place on September 24th at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

Although Kawajiri (28-7—2) (pictured) is coming off a first round, stoppage of Drew Fickett last month, and has long been regarded as one of Japan’s best lightweights, the Strikeforce vet is 3-2 in his last five fights. Prior to defeating Fickett, Kawajiri was overwhelmed by Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Gilbert Melendez in April and TKO’d in the first round.

Hansen (22-10) is currently riding a three fight win streak, which includes wins over Hideo Tokoro, Sami Aziz and most recently Mitsuhiro Ishida. The victories came after the former lightweight dropped three losses in a row against Bibiano Fernandes, Shinya Aoki and Hiroyuki Takaya.

Some of other bouts that are scheduled for DREAM 17 include a non-title bout between lightweight champion Shinya Aoki and Rob McCullough, Willamy Freire vs. Satoru Kitaoka and Takeshi Inoue vs. Caol Uno.
