While the search for Frank Mir’s replacement continues, Strikeforce has announced that a middleweight bout between Tim Kennedy and Trevor Smith will take place November 3rd in Oklahoma City. The promotion’s CEO Scott Coker made the announcement today via Twitter.

Kennedy (14-4) will be competing for the first time since July, when he dropped a unanimous decision loss to champion Luke Rockhold. Prior to the defeat Kennedy worked his way a UD victory over Robbie Lawler in July, 2011.

Smith (10-2) is returning to the organization after earning a submission win over Alexandre Moreno, while fighting for Battle Xtreme Championship in June. In Smith’s last Strikeforce appearance, which took place in January, he was stopped by Gian Villante.

The November 3rd card will be hosted by the Chesapeake Energy Center in Oklahoma City and the main card will be broadcast on Showtime.

The promotion is still looking for a new opponent for heavyweight Daniel Cormier, after Mir lost his main event slot due to injury.
