TJ Grant Withdraws from UFC on Versus 4 Due to Illness

By FCF Staff

Canadian welterweight TJ Grant (pictured) has been forced to withdraw from his bout this Sunday with Charlie Brenneman due to illness. As a result of the short notice, Brenneman will not compete at the UFC on Versus 4 card. The UFC made the announcement on the promotion’s official website today.

When FCF contacted Grant this afternoon the fighter revealed that he has been suffering from strep throat like symptoms  for several days, but that subsequent tests to determine his exact illness have not yet yielded their results. The veteran added that he had hoped to avoid withdrawing from the card, but was finally forced to after rest did not lead to his recovery.

The June 26th UFC on Versus 4 will be hosted by Pittsburgh’s CONSOL Energy Center and will feature a welterweight bout between Nate Marquardt and Rick Story in the main event.

The event will be broadcast on the Versus Network.

Some of the other bouts scheduled for the 11 fight card include heavyweight Pat Barry vs. Cheick Kongo, Matt Brown vs. welterweight John Howard, and Matt Mitrione vs. heavyweight Christian Morecraft.
