The Maximum Fighting Championship has announced that TUF 16 competitor Sam Alvey will challenge its middleweight champ Elvis Mutapcic, February 15th in Edmonton, Alberta.

Alvey (19-4), who went 1-1 during the most recent TUF season, had his last official bout in June and scored a first round, stoppage win over Lucas Lopes while competing for ShoFight. The 26 year-old fighter, who holds a win over Bellator’s Karl Amoussou, has gone 4-1 in his last five fights.

“I think anyone who knows me and knows Elvis knows that this fight is going to end in a knockout,” Alvey said in a press release from the promotion. “We’re both good strikers and we’re going to settle things striking.

“The only difference is that Elvis thinks his striking is better than mine, but I know my striking is better than his.”

Mutapcic (12-2) stopped TUF vet Joseph Henle in the third round at MFC 35 in October to lay claim to the promotion’s middleweight belt. The 26 year-old middleweight has also gone 4-1 in his last five bouts.

MFC 36 will be hosted by Edmonton’s Shaw Conference Center and will also feature Mukai Maromo taking on Graham Spencer to determine the promotion’s lightweight champ.
