TUF 18 Finale: Corassani Updates Status After Blanco’s Illegal Knee

Akira Corassani recorded his third straight victory last night at The TUF 18 Finale, but the featherweight didn’t earn the win because of his own efforts. The Swedish fighter was awarded the victory after opponent Maximo Blanco struck him with a knee to the face, as Corassani attempted to get back to his feet.

Blanco threw the knee, however, while Corassani still had one knee and hand touching the mat. The clearly stunned fighter could not continue and Blanco was disqualified for what was ruled as an intentional foul.

After the event, and a trip to the hospital, Corassani posted the above picture via his Instagram account as well as this statement:

Broke my nose in 5 places which was not as bad as the concussion from the knee. The dizziness got worse gradually and I was rocked as hell. Truthfully I dont remember much but this was not the way I wanted to win, I was more than ready for this fight and due to a stupid move the fight was ruined. Thanks for all your support and I’ll be back soon!

Blanco, who was coming off a unanimous decision win over Sam Sicilia, is now 2-3 in his last five fights.

The TUF 18 Finale was hosted by the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
