The expectation is that Tyron Woodley will fight Demian Maia next, but the welterweight champ is, and always will be, interested in fighting Georges St-Pierre.

Maia earned a decision win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 211 earlier this month, and in doing so, scored his seventh straight victory. After the bout, UFC President told Maia he had earned a title shot.

Recently, however, White also announced that GSP will no longer fight middleweight champ Michael Bisping next. The reversal came after St-Pierre reported he won’t be able to fight until November.

Woodley was a guest on “The MMA Hour” last week, and the powerful wrestler repeated his interest in facing St-Pierre. Woodley noted that until he fights the former champ, it will “hang over my head”. Woodley also had this to say about the Canadian star (quote via MMA Fighting):

“I’m the best welterweight in the world and I feel like Georges St-Pierre should’ve fought me,” Woodley said. “He should’ve come back (to welterweight). Fighting Bisping, I think that was the cowardly move. He’s going to fight someone who doesn’t have the ability to concuss him like I would, or Johny Hendricks would, or Robbie Lawler would. That’s why he went (up in weight).”

Recently White also reported that St-Pierre has expressed an interest in fighting whomever is the welterweight champ later this year.
