UFC 149: Ring Still Awaiting Word On Hometown Bout, Gagnon vs. Caraway Added

Following a recent press conference to announce that the Ultimate Fighting Championship is headed to Calgary, Alberta in July, the city’s own Nick Ring is still awaiting word as to whether he will compete on the card.

The former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor told FCF today that although he’s hoping to fight on the card, the promotion has not offered him any insights yet, as to whether he will in fact fight at UFC 149.

Ring, who is currently the only Calgary based fighter signed to the UFC roster, is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Tim Boetsch in September. The defeat was the first of Ring’s pro career and ended the 33 year-old-fighter’s ten fight winning streak.

Although it remains to be seen whether Ring will compete at UFC 149, Sportsnet commentator Joe Ferraro is reporting that Team Shredder’s Mitch Gagnon will face Team Alpha Male’s Bryan Caraway at the event.

Caraway (16-5) is coming off a submission win over Dustin Neace at the TUF 14 Finale in December, after competing on the reality TV show in 2011.

Gagnon (7-1) will be making his UFC debut. The bantamweight, who has won six straight bouts, last competed in October and scored a submission win over David Harris while fighting for Ringside MMA.

UFC 149 will be hosted by Calgary’s Scotiabank Saddledome and is expected to feature a title defense from featherweight champion Jose Aldo. No opponent for the main event bout has been confirmed.
