UFC 157: Ronda Rousey Survives Early Scare To Extend Armbar Streak

Many observers suspected that Liz Carmouche would end up being Ronda Rousey’s toughest test to date, and the challenger certainly pushed the highly regarded champ at UFC 157 tonight in Anaheim. After being taken down shortly into the bout, Carmouche nicely worked her way onto Rousey’s back and began threatening with a rear-naked-choke and neck-crank, before the bantamweight champion was able to shrug her off.
Soon after, Rousey was able to retain top position on the ground, and began working on the armbar submission that has made her the fastest rising star in the sport. Despite a determined effort from Carmouche to hold on and make it through the round, she was forced to tap-out with just 11 seconds remaining in the opening frame.
With the win, Rousey extended her pro record to 7-0, with all seven victories coming via first round, armbar.
