UFC 165: Renan Barao Fighting Eddie Wineland in Co-Headliner

Barao

By FCF Staff

Several weeks after the UFC was forced to cancel a bout between interim champ Renan Barao and Eddie Wineland on June 15th, the promotion has announced the two will fight on September 21st. The Barao-Wineland fight will co-headline UFC 165 in Toronto, Ontario, which will also feature light-heavyweight champ Jon Jones fighting Alexander Gustafsson.

Barao (30-1), who was forced to drop out of UFC 161 due to a foot injury, hasn’t fought since February when he tapped out Michael McDonald. The highly regarded and well rounded fighter has gone 5-0 to date in the UFC.

Wineland (20-8-1) is coming off back-to-back wins over Scott Jorgensen and Brad Pickett, after losing by decision to Urijah Faber and Joseph Benavidez.

Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz continues to recover from two knee surgeries, and has not competed now since October, 2011.

UFC 165 will be hosted by Toronto’s Air Canada Centre and the main card will be available via pay-per-view.
