UFC 166: Gilbert Melendez Fighting Diego Sanchez
By FCF Staff
The Ultimate Fighting Championship has confirmed that Gilbert Melendez will fight lightweight Diego Sanchez at the promotion’s upcoming October 19th card in Houston, Texas. Expected bouts between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos, and Hector Lombard versus Nate Marquardt have also been confirmed.
Houston’s Toyota Center will host UFC 166, which will have its main card broadcast via pay-per-view.
Melendez (21-3) will be competing for the first time since April, when he battled champion Benson Henderson to a split decision loss at UFC on FOX 7. Prior to that the former Strikeforce champ had won seven straight.
Sanchez (24-5), on the other hand, is coming off a split decision win, as the TUF vet narrowly defeated Takanori Gomi at UFC on FUEL TV 8 in March. Before that, Sanchez dropped a unanimous decision defeat to welterweight Jake Ellenberger at a UFC on FUEL TV card last February, which prompted his return to lightweight.
No other other bouts have been confirmed yet for UFC 166.
