UFC 167 will feature a heavyweight bout between two decorated and struggling heavyweights, as the promotion has announced that Alistair Overeem will face Frank Mir at the November 16th event.

Mir (16-8) is coming off a first round, TKO loss to Josh Barnett at UFC 164, which although many observers believed was stopped a bit prematurely, was the former’s champs third consecutive defeat. Prior to facing Barnett, Mir lost by decision to Daniel Cormier and was stopped by Junior dos Santos before that. The 34 year-old had won three straight bouts to earn a fight with dos Santos, who was the champion at the time.

Overeem (36-13) has been stopped in back-to-back fights now versus “Bigfoot” Silva and most recently Travis Browne, who came from behind to knockout the feared striker at UFC FN 26. The defeats followed Overeem’s first round, stoppage victory over Brock Lesnar in December, 2011, which at that juncture, extended the Dutch fighter’s undefeated streak to 12.

UFC 167 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, and will feature welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre taking on Johny Hendricks. The card will also mark the promotion’s 20th year anniversary.
