UFC 167: GSP Escapes With Split Decision Win, Announces Break From Fighting

The MMA world has been delivered a serious jolt tonight at UFC 167 in Las Vegas, as not only did welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre retain his title with a controversial, split decision win, he’s announced he’s taking a break from fighting.

Many people predicted Johny Hendricks’ powerful left hand and wrestling game would pose serious challenges for St. Pierre, and at the end of the day, they did just that. Although St. Pierre appeared to land more strikes throughout the bout in total, Hendricks inflicted much more damage and stunned the champion on a couple of occasions. By the end of the bout St. Pierre was cut and battered, while Hendricks didn’t have a mark on his face.

After the split decision was announced, a clearly upset St. Pierre announced that he has some personal issues that need attending too, and as a result, he is taking a break from fighting. Heading into tonight’s card, the renowned champion had relayed he would make be making an announcement afterwards.
