UFC 169: Barao Earns Quick Stoppage Win Over Faber, Aldo Outscores Lamas

Both the bantamweight and featherweight titles remain with Nova Uniao after UFC 169 tonight, as teammates Renan Barao and Jose Aldo defended their respective belts.

Barao floored Urijah Faber not long into their fight with a couple of hard right hands, and as the latter was latched onto the champ’s leg,  Barao reigned punches from above. Although Faber attempted to motion with his thumb that he was okay, referee Herb Dean jumped in and stopped the bout.

Despite a determined effort from Ricardo Lamas, the rugged featherweight was outscored by Aldo throughout their bout standing and on the ground. After the 25 minute fight Aldo was awarded the unanimous decision win.

And at heavyweight, Alistair Overeem scored a clear cut win over Frank Mir, despite taking a somewhat conservative approach. Overeem repeatedly punished Mir with punches on the feet and from the top position, and earned a UD victory.

Here are the results from tonight’s UFC 169 card, which was hosted by Newark’s Prudential Center.
