Patrick Cote may be on the outside of the UFC’s top 15, welterweight rankings, but as he looks for his fourth straight win tomorrow night, the vet says winning a title remains his goal.

The 34 year-old Cote (20-8) is booked to fight Stephen Thompson (9-1) at UFC 178 on Saturday, and while speaking to UFC.com recently, the Canadian had this to say about his aspirations:

“It’s always the same goal,” Cote said. “I don’t want to talk for anybody else, but for me it’s always been the same thing – I want to have another title shot. I do this sport and make all these sacrifices to be number one, and in my mind there’s no doubt that I want to be in the title race. I want to win and put pressure on the UFC to give me bigger fights. But it’s one fight at a time, I never look past my opponent, and my next fight is my most important one.”

Cote worked his way into a middleweight title fight with now former champ Anderson Silva back in 2008, but the fight was stopped after “The Predator” suffered a knee injury.

More recently, Cote has scored consecutive wins over Alessio Sakara, Bobby Voelker and Kyle Noke.

Thompson, meanwhile, has also won three in a row since he was decisioned by Matt Brown in 2012.

UFC 178 will go down at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
