Although Tim Kennedy will face one of MMA’s most decorated wrestlers at UFC 178, the middleweight is more than confident in his own grappling abilities heading into his scrap with Yoel Romero.

The #6th ranked middleweight, who will battle the #10 positioned Romero on September 27th, appeared on the latest edition of FOX Sports 1’s “UFC Tonight.”

While discussing whether he’ll be able to take the Olympic Silver Medalist wrestler down, Kennedy stated (quote via FOX Sports press release):

“I don’t think I’ll have a problem taking him down. I don’t care where the fight goes. I want to beat him on the feet. I’m a much more technical striker. I have very good head defense. If he tries to use his wrestling, I’m good enough to stop his takedowns. I want to beat him up on our feet.”

Kennedy (18-4) is riding a four fight win streak, which includes victories over Trevor Smith, Roger Gracie, Rafael Natal and most recently Michael Bisping.

Romero (8-1), on the other hand, has defeated Clifford Starks,  Ronny Markes, Derek Brunson and Brad Tavares since joining the UFC.

UFC 178 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
