Conor McGregor was in attendance at last night’s UFC 179 card in Brazil, and as a result, the rising featherweight got to witness the thrilling rematch between Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes first hand.

The brash fighter is scheduled to fight Dennis Siver on January 18th, but if McGregor wins the bout, he’ll likely be booked to fight the champion Aldo next.

Speaking to FOX Sports 2 after Saturday’s card, here is what McGregor had to say about the memorable main event (quote via FOX Sports press release):

“It was a phenomenal contest,” said McGregor, when asked who he thought won the bout, which was awarded to Aldo via unanimous decision.  “I have so much respect for both of them.”

“He showed his heart and will in there,” McGregor noted about Aldo. “He showed his frustration as well. I feel if I connect, it will end. That’s the difference between me and them.”

McGregor has won four straight fights since joining the UFC, which includes a stoppage win over Dustin Poirier in September. The Irish fighter is currently ranked #5 in the UFC’s 145 division.
