Recently it was announced that Chris Weidman will no longer fight Vitor Belfort at UFC 181 due to a hand injury, and now details have emerged regarding the middleweight champ’s setback.

Weidman, who was set to fight Belfort on December 6th, reportedly has a hairline fracture in his left hand. Details regarding the injury were passed along in the latest edition of “UFC Tonight.”

The undefeated fighter reportedly battled through what was believed to be a sprained hand, heading into his decision victory over Lyoto Machida at UFC 175. A follow up examination, however, revealed the hairline fracture.

Recently Weidman posted the following comment (and picture) above on Instagram:

Want to thank my fans for all the support. I’ll be back soon stronger than ever! #andstill

Weidman and Belfort are expected to fight in February, 2015.
