2014 has been a big year for Team Alpha Male, and at UFC 182, bantamweight prospect Cody Garbrandt is hoping to add another impressive win to the gym’s campaign.

The early stages of Garbrandt’s pro career have been monitored more than most, due to his 32-1 record as an amateur boxer and a notable, high school wrestling career. On Saturday, the 23 year-old will battle 29 year-old Marcus Brimage, and Garbrandt is confident he can deliver on the hype that’s followed him.

“Really nothing concerns me, you know what I mean?” Garbrandt relayed on a recent episode of Full Contact Fighter Radio, when asked what concerns him the most about Brimage’s skill set. “I go with killers everyday, I put myself in deep waters, and I push myself in practice, each and every day, I challenge myself to get better.”

“Not taking anything away from him, he’s a tough dude, I respect him but I don’t fear him,” Garbrandt added about Brimage, who has gone 4-2 to date in official UFC action. “He comes forward and I come forward. It’s going to be a great fight for the fans, and it’s going to be one that I’m really looking forward to getting in there and testing my mettle.”

Brimage is coming off a memorable, head kick, KO victory over Jumabieke Tuerxun in November, but it remains to be seen what strategy he will employ versus Garbrandt.  The American Top Team fighter could look to engage Garbrandt on his feet, or test the wrestling skills and ground game of the undefeated fighter.

“Everyone tries to do that until I hit them,” said Garbrandt, when asked if he believes Brimage will test the waters standing on Saturday night. “I have really good power for my weight, and my speed, I can pinpoint my accuracy of my shots. I am really instinctive in there…he’s coming off a head kick, knockout win, so he’s going to feel confident with that. He can do whatever he wants standing, but until he feels my power; he’s going to get hit by it one time and I know he’s going to be looking for the shot after that. So I am prepared for wherever the fight takes place…”

If Garbrandt can defeat an established and dangerous vet like Brimage, then the bantamweight could be poised for a breakout year in 2015.

“Really, I take one day at a time, that’s how I live my life,” said Garbrandt. “Obviously I have future plans, I want to be a household name in the UFC, and I want people to remember me, know who I am, and say that kid can fight…move up into the ranks and hopefully be in the top 10 by the end of 2015. That’s my goal.
