UFC 182: Jon Jones “OK” With Playing the “Bad Guy”

Jon Jones

By FCF Staff

Leading up to Jon Jones’ upcoming fight with Daniel Cormier, there’s certainly been no shortage of coverage regarding the light-heavyweight’s heated rivalry, and the UFC champion believes he’s been portrayed as the “bad guy”.

Of course, one could argue that a reason for this, is because Jones was captured on camera threatening to “kill” Cormier, after the latter threatened to spit in his face. In addition, the two have exchanged verbal jabs for weeks, and there was also their well documented press conference brawl, where Jones was filmed screaming after it concluded. The footage of all these incidents have been circulated in UFC 182 promos for weeks.

Jones (20-1) recently spoke to UFC.com about this Saturday’s fight, and while discussing how he’s been portrayed, the renowned fighter stated:

“It’s easy to paint me as the instigator,” Jones said.  “I think a lot of people want to me to be the bad guy. It does seem like the media has painted me to be the bad guy. I’m OK with that. I’m comfortable with that. I’ll play the bad guy.”

The champion is coming off a unanimous decision win over Glover Teixeira in April, and Cormier (15-0) choked out Dan Henderson in his last outing, which took play in May.

UFC 182 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will also feature Donald Cerrone taking on fellow lightweight contender, Myles Jury.
