When Anderson Silva was hospitalized earlier this week, it was quickly relayed that the legend’s comeback likely won’t be delayed, and now his physician has expanded on why.

Silva was taken to a hospital on Monday, after he felt pain in his lower back and numbness in his legs, during a training session in Rio de Janeiro. In a follow up interview with UFC.com, Brazilian Athletic Commission doctor, Dr. Marcio Tannure, confirmed that Silva has felt this type of pain before.

The physician added that it has nothing to do with the horrific leg injury he suffered versus Chris Weidman last December, and that Silva can resume normal training in 10-15 days.

The 39 year-old Silva has been suffering from lumbago, which is a lower back pain that athletes in contact sports sometimes incur. The condition requires rest, strength conditioning exercises and anti-inflammatory medication.

The former middleweight champ is scheduled to fight Nick Diaz on January 31st at UFC 183, which will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
