UFC 184: Holly Holm Evaluates Performance After Winning Octagon Debut

Not too many fighters compete in the co-headliner, of a pay-per-view card, while making their UFC debut, but that’s exactly what Holly Holm did last night in Los Angeles.

The decorated boxer and undefeated MMA fighter worked her way to a split decision win over Raquel Pennington, and while Holm was happy with the win, she admits improvements could be made.

While speaking to FOX Sports 1 after the event, here is some of what Holm had to say about her successful UFC debut:

“I was trying to stay in a lower stance. I didn’t let my kicks go like I wanted to. The punches were there, but I didn’t step down on them. I felt fine in the clinch and defending the takedown. I’ve never had anyone shoot that much against me in a fight. There’re a lot of things I want to do better. I was standing tall and you don’t do that. I want to stay low following a combo. But I’m not going to complain. I never feel 100 percent satisfied after a fight, but I’m really excited it’s done and I’m happy. I feel like I was a little too cautious instead of diving in on the shots.”

With the win, Holm improved her record to 8-0, and Pennington’s fell to 5-5.

UFC 184 was hosted by the city’s Staples Center.
