Daniel Cormier made good on his second chance to win the UFC’s light-heavyweight title tonight in Las Vegas, as the fighter’s vaunted wrestling game proved to be too much for Anthony Johnson.

“Rumble” blasted Cormier on several occasions with kicks and punches at UFC 187, but the latter was able to weather the storm and take the fight to the mat. After punishing Johnson in round two with ground-and-pound strikes, Cormier finished the bout with a rear-naked-choke in round three.

After the victory, Cormier relayed to Jon Jones that he’ll be waiting for the fighter, who was recently stripped of the 205 title. Jones and Cormier met in January, and “Bones” defeated his rival by unanimous decision.

In the co-main event, Chris Weidman took some heavy punches from Vitor Belfort early on, but quickly turned around the fight with a nicely timed takedown. Belfort had no answers for the middleweight champ’s top game, and the fight was stopped at 2:53 of round one.
