Although Anthony Pettis is no longer UFC lightweight champ, Donald Cerrone is still hoping to face the renowned fighter and avenge his 2013 loss to “Showtime.”

Leading up to UFC 185, Cerrone relayed that he was hoping Pettis would defeat Rafael dos Anjos, so that he could face his former rival later in the year for the title. Dos Anjos however, worked his way to a dominant, decision win over Pettis on Saturday night to become the new champ. So, if Cerrone defeats Khabib Nurmagomedov on May 23rd at UFC 187, “Cowboy” will be tapped to face dos Anjos next.

Well, following UFC 185, Cerrone was asked about whether he’s still interested in fighting Pettis, given what’s transpired, and the charismatic fighter stated:

“I’m never opposed to fighting anybody, so fighting, beating Khabib going and beating dos Anjos, and then telling Pettis to come on…” Cerrone said in a backstage interview with the promotion’s Megan Olivi. “I’m the new and improved “Cowboy.” I’m coming for the f—in belt.”

Cerrone fought dos Anjos in August, 2013, and was decisioned by the new champ. Since the loss, however, Cerrone has won seven in a row.
