UFC 187: Zach Makovsky Talks John Dodson, Title Shot Opportunity

Makovsky

After going 3-1 to begin his UFC tenure, Zach Makovsky is keenly aware that if he defeats John Dodson this Saturday at UFC 187, some big things are in his future.

The former Bellator champ, who is currently ranked #9 in the UFC’s 125 division, recently spoke to UFC.com about this weekend’s bout. While discussing what’s on the line, considering Dodson’s status, the 32 year-old contender relayed:

“John Dodson is the number one-ranked contender and he gave Demetrious his most difficult fight,” Makovsky said. “He was going to fight for the title again before his injury. A win over Dodson, which no one in the UFC has done besides Demetrious, should be enough to earn that shot. I’ve held several titles, some that are called ‘world titles’. The thing is, everyone knows what the real world title is and that’s the UFC title. That said, I’ve consistently reached my goals and keep setting the bar higher for myself.”

Makovsky is coming off a unanimous decision win over Timothy Elliott in February, while Dodson hasn’t fought since last June, when he TKO’d John Moraga.

UFC 187 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
